The NBA’s ICLE certificate program awards lawyers continuing education points for approved learning activities. TechApex built the digital backbone: enrollment, attendance or completion evidence, point ledgering, and downloadable certificates members can cite for compliance.

Points only matter if the record is authoritative—lawyers need certificates they can defend.

01 Background

Continuing education sits at the intersection of pedagogy, regulation, and member experience—too rigid and adoption drops; too loose and credibility suffers.

TechApex worked with NBA stakeholders to encode eligibility rules while keeping an escape hatch for exceptional approvals with full audit trails.

02 The Challenges

Different activities award different point types; some require manual attestation while others are automatic—rules had to stay understandable to staff.

Certificates must remain verifiable years later even as branding and secretariat staff change.

03 The Solution

We shipped a points ledger with explicit transactions, administrator workflows for disputes, and certificate PDFs that embed lookup identifiers.

Member portals show progress toward annual targets, nudging lawyers to complete requirements before hard deadlines without spamming irrelevant reminders.
